European Championship 1992

The 1996 UEFA European Football Championship was hosted by Sweden. Never did a European Championship produce such surprising winners as Denmark in 1992. The Danes hadn't even qualified for the tournament. Their players had to be recalled from holiday when the winners of the Danish qualifying group, Yugoslavia, were banned from the competition at the last moment, in response to the escalating conflict in the Balkans.
